     Paint Splatter Snow Prints

    Supplies

    • Old toothbrushes
    • Tempera or Watercolor paint
    • Water
    • Medium to Large Cardboard box
    • Art or Construction Paper
    • Apron & Paper towels

    Instructions

    1. Put on apron.
    2. Put a piece of paper in the open box. Feel free to cut off the flaps so it's easier to access the inside.
    3. Dip a toothbrush in water
    4. For tempera paint, dip brush bristles lightly in the paint. For watercolor, rub the wet bristle around the paint pad for a bit to transfer color to them.
    5. Hold the brush close to the head, place the thumb on the bristles, and with the brush close to the paper, rub the thumb across the bristles a few times.
    6. Rinse off the brush, gently dry it on a paper towel, and try another color.
    7. Repeat! Change colors and paper as desired.
    8. Experiment with different brush types, moving the thumb faster or flower, even shaking the brush at the paper instead of running the thumb on the bristles. How does this change the splatter pattern?
    9. What if there's more or less water in the paint? How does that change the splatter?
    10. When done, set aside to dry, being careful to not tilt the paper so that the splatter dots don't drip.
    11. When dry, sign the artwork and add other features (maybe even cottonball snowpeople).

    Origami Cornucopias

(these are also called "cootie catchers" and "fortune tellers")

    Supplies

    • Origami paper (or thin foldable paper like notebook paper)
    • Markers, crayons
    • Small candies or finger treats like grapes or raisins (or non-candy items like marbles or stones)
    • Stickers

    Instructions

    1. Start with a square of paper
      • If the paper isn't square, create a square by folding one corner over to the opposite edge of the paper, and align the two edges. Crease. Cut off the remaining edge of the paper that is not contained under the fold.
    2. Fold the paper diagonally from one corner to another, matching edges, and crease carefully. Open the paper.
    3. Choose the next corner to the right, and fold the paper again to the opposite diagonal corner, matching all edges, and crease. Open the paper.
    4. Fold the paper in half horizontally, matching edges, and crease, then open.
    5. Fold the paper in half vertically, matching edges, and crease, then open.
    6. The paper will have four lines, two going corner to corner, and two going down the middle from top to bottom, and side to side.
    7. Take one corner, and fold it just to the middle point (the "belly button") of the all the folds, and crease. Do the same with the other three corners.
    8. Flip the folded paper over.
    9. Take one of these corners, and fold just to the middle point, and crease (it might be a little harder to crease so go slowly). Do the same with the other three corners.
    10. This side of the paper has many folded shapes, the other has four flaps. Keep this new square shape with the "many folds" side up and the flaps side down.
    11. Fold this shape in half horizontally, then unfold.
    12. Fold it in half vertically, and keep it this way.
    13. Pick up the shape, and wiggle fingers into the flaps to pull them away from the "body." The shape will start to open on all its folds, and eventually it can be flipped over onto the fold points.
    14. The flaps open up to reveal the cornucopia "pockets" for holding goodies!

    4. Fall-themed small items (leaves, acorns), Leaves, Pipe cleaners, Ribbons, Stickers, Craft moss
    5. Photo or Picture (optional)

    6. Take another stick (undecorated), and put a bit of glue near each end on the flat surface.
    7. Place that stick, glue-side down, to cross the others at their ends to form the third side of the frame.

    9. Place that stick, flat glue sides down and out, next to the one from step 8.
    10. Add a third stick next to the ones from steps 8 and 9 if desired.
    11. Repeat steps 6 through 10 for the fourth side of the frame.
    12. Set the frame aside to allow the glue to dry (place a book on top to keep it flat): 15 minutes for glue stick, 5 for hot glue, and an hour for school glue. The frame might be fragile!
    13. Once dry, flip over the frame.
    14. Time for more decoration! Paint, add stickers, glue on fall items like acorns, even write a name or happy words like "Fall Fun!"
    15. Add the picture! Measure the photo (or picture) against the front of the frame. Cut it to just a little bit bigger than the front opening.
    16. Put a little bit of glue on the (front side) top and bottom edge, and stick the picture to the back of the frame so it shows through the front.
    17. Cut a 4" piece of yarn, make a loop, and glue the ends onto back of the top popsicle stick so it can hang it as an ornament or from a bulletin board. (Optional, glue a magnet to the back).
